The App works with both iOS and Android, and if you have an iPhone with the Live View photo setting, your animated images will also display on the frame. The App and the overall setup process are straightforward with step-by-step instructions provided on-screen the first time you power it up. Being able to send them directly from any computer – via an app, site or editing software would be a logical next step. Instead, I had to transfer the images from my Mac to my iPhone via Airdrop and then add them to the frame via the Aura App. However, the images are not stored on the frame but instead on Aura’s unlimited cloud storage service. While it’s handy to set and control the frame from the Aura mobile phone app, I would like to upload images from my computer. My only real gripe with this digital photo frame is that I can’t transfer images from my Mac directly to it. The Carver by Aura blends in perfectly with my workspace and displays my travel images all day long Another neat addition is the ability to double-tap the middle of the sensor bar to see a red heart icon float up across their image – this sends the image owner a ‘like’. You can invite others to share their photos on your frame via the Aura app. A single tap in the middle will result in image information appearing for a few seconds on the screen. There are two alternative colour options, including a white frame and a black and white frame.Īs with the Mason photo frame, there’s an invisible touch bar at the top of the frame for selecting images and powering off the frame. The Carver is pure black, and as a result, the images it displays appear perfectly framed. With the ambient light sensor built-in, it automatically detects the best light setting for the display. Images pop from the screen of the Aura Carver digital photo frame, and the detail and quality are brilliant. The photo screen is a stunning back-lit 10.1″ display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 and 224 PPL. Plus, you can only use the Carver in landscape orientation – for portrait photos it pairs two pictures side by side. There are no apparent buttons and only a single cord that connects to the rear of the frame for power. The Carver has a similar shape to the Mason below however, it’s a little larger, slicker and looks like a minimalist high-end photo frame. With the Carver by Aura, I’m able to create bespoke collections of my favourite images and display them. Sadly, they spend most of their time hidden away in storage drives. As a photographer, I take thousands of photos every year.
